Children, Kids, and Billylids!

What a post title!  When I was a kid (tee hee) my Nan always told me not to call children 'kids' ... kids are baby goats.  Well, it never worked.  I just called kids 'kids' when Nan wasn't  listening! And billylids... what a word... I love it.... Australian slang comes from English rhyming slang for the most part, and although it seems to be  a disappearing 'language' .. I still love it (even if I don't use it too often myself).  I can remember talking to a Pearly King and Queen once, and they talked in their rhyming slang... what a wonderful lilt it had... and never understood a word of it!

This week at the Card Crafter's Circle, our challenge theme is CHILDREN .... create for a child, or with child images... our sponsor is one of my favourites, and she has a special place in my heart along side her images!  Dearie Dolls is joining us again!  Although the shop is not open at the moment, the winner will receive a wonderful selection of images that are not available on the Dearie Dolls Blog.

I've used  a sweet image, Cooking Girl...

I was compelled to colour her red and yellow.  I'm thinking now that it's because I'm filling my kitchen with red, and I'm sewing yellow gingham curtains (with red tiebacks).  The backing paper is red and yellow check, but as it as a vintage/worn look, the yellow is more a cream colour, and doesn't show well in the picture.  I've used markers, and glitter pens to colour her, and edged the image layer with red and yellow running stitches...

The curly loopy hair on the image screamed at me that I had to stitch it somehow, so I've used long-stitch loops and stitched midway to catch and secure it.... if you know your embroidery stitches, it's like a really loos, badly formed chain stitch!

I also stitched round her apron pocket, and the buttons on her shoes.

As you can see, she's baking a CHOCOLATE cake, and like me, is spending more time eating the batter in the bowl, rather than putting it to the oven! Yum!

I'm entering the card into these challenges
Twisted Tuesday Challenge 2TC15 - Glittery Chocolate Lovers (23/7)
Digi Doodle Shops Best #117 Anything Goes (26/7)

Do visit us at the Card Crafter's Circle, and see the creations our wonderful design team has created for your viewing pleasure.... then join in our challenge! We'd love to see your creations, so let your inner child run free! Thanks for peepin'!

GIngham is a brilliant choice for this gorgeous digi! She's a real sweetie. (I was always told off for calling children 'kids' too - but I still do and I'm a teacher!)
