Retro at OPH

This week at One Powerful Hour, Caroline set us the challenge of creating something with a Retro/ Pop Art theme.... what an exciting and varied theme! First to my mind was the 50s and 60s, an era of music and decor that I love... and as soon as I thought Pop Art, in slides Andy Worhol and his Campbell Soup can.... then followed June Cleaver, and some of my favourite tv reruns, The Munsters, Bewitched and so on...  I opted for a 50s theme.... I have collected some original cookbooks and Home Economics books from that time, and love them to pieces. I love the way a woman is 'directed' to run her home.... were things simpler then or am I dreaming?

So then I set to select images to work with... and I couldn't decide what images I like best, so I created two cards... I had to use the advert for Jockey underwear.  How retro is a man in full trunk skivvies! And those cookbook images, and kitchen prints.... they just OOZE retro! And of course, wasn't a woman always in the kitchen? (I don't know, I was born in the late 60s...)

Ingredients: Digi image, Digi Background; Cardstock - Rosies; Chalks - Pebbles Inc, Stardust Pen - Sakura; Blush Pen - Copic Ciao; Yellow Rhinestones - Kaisercraft.

I printed my image and background, and created mats and layers. I coloured the image - copic for skin, chalk for hair and background, and gold stardust for the logo and wristwatch. After fixing all layers together, they were added to the cardbase, and then finished with the bling.

My next card was created in the same manner, except for the colouring...

Ingredients: Digi image, Digi Background; Cardstock - Rosies; Stardust, Glaze Pens - Sakura; Blush Pen - Copic Ciao; Cream Pearl - Kaisercraft.

In colouring this image, I tried to recreate to style of the 50s image - black line, and overedge colour. The image itself already had the 4 lime green patches. After assembling this card, I added a single pearl earring. I mean pearls and the Fifities go together like peas and carrots!

Do join us at One Powerful Hour this week, and every week.... we'd love to spark your creativity (and do show us your creations) .... thanks for peepin'!

Great cards for a giggle! I admit I still have my mother's home economics book from the early fifties! I love the page with the instructions for preparing the home and yourself for you hubby's return from work! Wouldn't it be nice if someone did that for us?!?
